Athena SWAN Silver Award for SBCS!

As a co-chair of SBCS Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Committee I am very happy that SBCS has received Athena SWAN Silver Award!

Athena SWAN (Scientific WAdvance-HE-Membership-logo_Standalone_AS-Silver_Colouromen’s Academic Network) Charter was established in 2005 to encourage and recognise commitment to advancing the careers of women in science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine (STEMM) employment in higher education and research. In 2015 the charter was expanded to recognise work undertaken in arts, humanities, social sciences, business and law (AHSSBL), and in professional and support roles, and for trans staff and students. The charter now recognises work undertaken to address gender equality more broadly, and not just barriers to progression that affect women.

At SBCS, EDI Committee aims to identify and spread best practice in support of equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) across the School. More about the committee, our work at the School and our key achievements can be found on our homepage.

2018 Bayrischzell Workshop on Noncommutativity and Physics!

This spring I am co-organising a workshop in Germany:

2018 Bayrischzell Workshop on Noncommutativity and Physics:

Hopf algebras in Noncommutative Geometry

It will be held in Bayrischzell, Germany, from Friday April 20 (arrival, dinner) to Tuesday April 24 (departure day, no talks).

The 2018 Bayrischzell workshop is on Hopf algebras and quantum groups in non-commutative geometry and quantum gravity and the associated semiclassical structures from Poisson geometry. The focus is on the interplay and connections between these structures to advance the understanding of the relation between (semi)classical and NC or quantum structures and between algebraic and geometrical aspects and to develop new ideas and applications.

For more information see the web page http://hep.itp.tuwien.ac.at/~miw/bzell2018/ During the workshop, the Working Group 2 meeting of the COST action ‘Quantum Structure of Spacetime (http://www.qspace-cost.eu/), devoted to Noncommutative Geometry Structures, will take place on Monday, April 23 2018.

In order to register for the workshop and the conference hotel, please send an email to the organisers including your arrival and departure dates.
